How Important Hapkido Is To Me

Postby Tina Louras » Thu Feb 18, 2010 12:53 pm

For example, Fred would vote "Top 5"

1. Family
2. School
3. Friends
4. Hapkido
5. Skateboarding

Maam

I voted top 5. Most people I know consider their health to be of utmost importance (second only to family), and I haven't found a more enjoyable or rewarding way to stay healthy (not to mention the long list of other benefits Hapkido provides for us!). That being said, I think the time a student devotes to Hapkido isn't always proportional to how much they value their training.

The rest of my top five is filled with the usual - friends, family, study etc. Unfortunately I never found a life affirming passion for skateboarding like Fred has.

This is an interesting question and in my current role as a business coach, work a lot on people's values and what is most important to them. It is different for others, and personally my physical health holds is my most highest value before anything else. Some people have work, others relationship and social etc.

The good thing about Hapkido it can encumber a whole lot of values, including social, family, physical health, mental health etc. The main point is knowing your top value set, then setting your goals around it, you will accomplish so much.

Think about the 7 Values we can have in life:

1. Social (What Society Thinks of you)
2. Vocational (What you do every day)
3. Physical (Am I Fit, strong, beautiful, enough)
4. Mental (Do I know enough, eg Personal Development)
5. Family (What would they think)
6. Financial (Wealth $$$)
7. Spiritual (What keeps you centered)

This is taken from a great author on this subject, Dr. D. Martini.

Now if this was a bit tough to digest then here is a simpler format, enjoy what you do and you will have all the success in the world.
